I know I’m not the only one that has a rough day every once in a while where you get into a funk. The days where you just can’t seem to get anything done or you just don’t feel like doing anything productive. It is definitely normal to have those days but it is really easy to get sucked into a bad routine when those days happen. So that is why it is important to have good habits so you don’t get stuck in that bad routine.
Here’s what I do during the days I feel unmotivated.
1 – Rest day vs Low Motivation
First thing when you have an off day is determining if your body just needs a rest day or if you just have low motivation. I’m the type of person that has a really hard time taking a day off, I always feel guilty if I’m not being productive. But one of the best things you can do if you need a break is to just have a day where you let yourself do whatever you want. My personal favorite is to get my favorite snacks and lay in bed with my dog and watch movies all day. Usually after I take a day off like that I wake up the next day feeling so much better!
But if you are just feeling no motivation this is when you just have to push through and keep going. Having a few activities that will get you out of your head and feeling back to normal is key. The tips and tricks I have below are for those low motivation days. Usually once you get going you’ll be out of your funk!
2 – Get Outside & Get Moving
If I feel off in the morning I will usually stop what I’m doing and go take my dog on a walk and spend some time outside. Even just walking a mile will usually turn my day around. And in return I end up having a way more productive day. I love starting out each day with a walk with no distractions from my phone. On my walks I never go on my phone, I don’t even let myself listen to a podcast. I think it is really important to have times during the day where we can just let ourselves think with no distractions. With social media I feel like we are so used to always having to look or listen to something. So I really love taking the time just to move my body and get some fresh air. If you are having a rough day I would highly recommend a no phone walk, and I would bet you will end up feeling a lot better and motivated after.
3 – Clean up your space
9 out of 10 times when I’m in a funk my room or house is a mess and that does not help me feel any more productive. So on those days I really make sure to try to clean up as much as I can. I’ll put on a podcast or a movie on my iPad and get the laundry put away, dishes done and even some vacuuming. Anything to help freshen up your space will help your attitude and make you feel less stressed.
4 – Self Care
I know everyone says this but it is one of the best ways you can make yourself feel better! One of my favorite things to do is to take a self care shower. I make sure to wash my hair, exfoliate, do a hair mask. I also love taking time to do a new face mask, apply self tan, or blow dry my hair. These are all such simple things you can do! But when you look good you feel good, so it’s the perfect way to give yourself a little boost.

5 – Reading and Journaling
I love reading a book or journaling when I’m feeling off because it is an activity that I can do not on my phone. Usually I will read a motivational, self-help type of book. Because it helps you get your motivation back and learn something new. I also love taking the time to journal. One of my goals this year has been to journal more. I find it very therapeutic to get all of my thoughts out on paper and helps me work though whatever is making me have a bad day.
These are all really simple things you can do. But if you keep a list of simple, yet effective things you can do in a funk you will end up have more productive days! These 5 things have all made such a big difference in my life when I implement them into my day to day life. I would love to hear what everyone else does when they’re in a funk!
