Skincare Routine for Acne Prone Skin

I’ve struggled with my skin since I was about 14. I’ve tried everything from Proactiv, the acne clearing sets from the grocery store, masks, the PMD. You name it and I’ve tried for my acne. About a year ago I started going to a master esthetician in my area. I got a series of 3 chemical peels, 2 microneedling, and I’m about to do my 3rd ematrix. As well as doing those treatments she got me on a good skincare regimen. I switched to all medical grade products, which I highly recommend! My esthetician has shown me before and after pictures from people that just switch to medical grade products, and the results are insane! Medical grade products are definitely more expensive, but I’ve spent so much money over the years buying different products to try and clear my skin. So, in the end, it’s cheaper for me to buy these and have them work! Here’s my skincare routine!

Morning Skincare Routine

Every morning I rinse my face with water, and it has helped keep my skin so moisturized. Before I started going to an esthetician I was using a cleanser morning and night. I was very hesitant to stop using a cleanser but I really noticed a big difference in how hydrated my skin was when I just started washing it with water in the morning.

Mandalic Acid

I use the Vivant Skincare 15% Mandalic Acid. This is a newer product I’ve added to my skincare routine. It helps with acne, hyperpigmentation, and exfoliates. It’s basically magic in a bottle! I’m still using this every other morning, due to my skin purging really bad from it. I have noticed a big difference in my skin since switching to every other day. I’m excited to see how my skin improves once I use this a little longer.

Rose hip oil

I use the Insta Natural Rose Hip oil. It’s 25 dollars for 4 oz, which is such a good deal! I have been using this for years before my esthetician recommended it to me. I’ve tried a few different brands and this Insta Natural one is my favorite. I use one pump for my whole face every morning. If I need more moisture I will use two pumps at night, but I try to stick to just using it in the morning. This oil is great for helping fade acne scars, improving skin texture, and it’s antibacterial.

I use the SkinCeuticals Daily Moisturizer. This is a great lightweight moisturizer. It helps reduce pore size, protect against environmental damage, and doesn’t leave a greasy finish. It’s a great lotion to wear under makeup. I started using this one because the spa I go to stopped carrying the Hymed Reconstructive cream I was originally using. I don’t think I’m going to repurchase this after I finish the jar due to it being double the price of the other moisturizer I use but I really do love this.

Night Skincare Routine

I looooove my Clarisonic! My esthetician recommended I use it every other night to help my dry skin, and it definitely has helped keep it more hydrated. Using a Clarisonic is such a great way to exfoliate and get all the dead skin off! If I’m wearing makeup that day I will wash my face once and then wash it again and use the Clarisonic the second time. It helps not get so much makeup on the brush heads.

I use the Elta MD Foaming Facial Cleanser. I love how it is a foaming formula because you can tell if your skin is clean or not by how much it has foamed up. When I’m wearing makeup I do have to wash my face twice with it to make sure I’m getting all of my makeup off. But this is by far my favorite face wash I have ever used. I just bought my 3rd bottle of it!

I use the SkinMedica Retinol Complex 0.5. This helps skin tone and texture, helps get rid of fine lines, and has really helped prevent acne and help fade my acne marks. This has become one of my holy grail products. It took a few months for my skin to get used to it, I got super dry and my skin flaked and purged for a little bit. But once my skin was used to the Retinol it changed my skin so much! I think everyone should be using retinol!

I use the Hymed Reconstructive cream at night. This is meant for super dry skin but doesn’t feel like your putting a super thick cream on your face or leave it greasy. This is full of hyaluronic acid, and Vitamin A and E. You get 4 oz for roughly $30. I have been using the same jar for a year now and I’m just getting close to the bottom.

Along with my skincare routine, these are a few other things I try to use every day to help my skin.

Ice roll every morning

Use my Nurse Jamie Roller

Sleep on a silk pillowcase

Sleep with a humidifier, because it’s so dry in Utah.

I do use face masks occasionally. I love the Dr. Jart sheet masks and the glossier face masks.
